Work and Discipline
Work
We need to provide
routine and structure to men whose lives have been chaotic. When
in addiction, the addict usually has no concept of work except to
gain more substances to contribute to his addiction.
Immaculate Heart Community will emphasis a love of hard work,
which helps to provide a sense of self worth, ownership and responsibility
within the community. We will grow our own vegetables, farm our
own animals, maintain and construct the land and buildings and administer
the day to day running of the community.
Art and craft-work, such as Icon and Rosary making will add to
the financial maintenance of the community.
All work is hoped to add to the skills of each brother and to
provide a pattern of routine to befit him for inside or outside
the community.
All brother's will cook, wash, launder, maintain and build up
the property as a reminder of the work their parents performed or
should have performed. However, it will not be all work as the days
structure will be broken up to include prayer, study and recreation,
thus sanctifying and harmonising the day.
Discipline
The rules of the community will be in accordance with the
Catechism of the Catholic Church; and
the rule of St Augustine will be the primary source of inspiration
in forming a regular life. It is to be acknowledged that sin is
an offence against God, oneself and to the community. Use and possession
of drugs and alcohol, sexual activity and violence will not be tolerated.
With eyes of charity and discernment of the situation, the brother
may require removal from the community for limited periods or for
good.
