Prayer and Education
Prayer
We believe that drug addiction is first and foremost a
moral and spiritual malaise that requires more than psycho-physical
strategies, therefore prayer is essential for recovery from addiction.
Only by the action of Grace will brother's be healed and fulfill
their potential. Prayer also adds to the establishment of routine
and order in one's life. Thus the day will include the Divine Office,
Rosary, Angelus and prayers before meals.
We envisage that Mass, Confession and adoration will be made available.
Brother's will also be encouraged to pray and contemplate in a personal
way. Our Chaplain will provide Mass in Magdalen Chapel on at least
a monthly basis in Magdalen house.
We pray that through this the brother's will see
the working of Grace on their lives and the lives of those with
them.
Education
Once a brother is freed from addiction there is a natural desire
and need for intellectual and spiritual growth. With the assistance
of volunteer teachers and peer support, we hope all brother's who
are able will have their education bought up to the year 12 level
and/or learn a trade.
TAFE and University programmes can be made available to the brother
as he leaves community or by distance learning whilst in community.
Catechesis is also an essential element and will be provided for
on a weekly basis by volunteers including Priests and religious.
Knowledge of the faith will enable brother's to use the tools God
provided to further their own, each others and the community's growth.
Pray with us:
Lauds (Morning Prayer) with Breviary
Lord, we come to you today to beg forgiveness for our sins, your
grace to overcome temptations, assistance in our walk to Hoiness,
to gain freedom from our addictions and the strength to be your
hands. We consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
your Holy Mother, as her slaves for life and we offer ourselves
as her tools for your Kingdom. Help us to assist the lost and despised
and especially we plead for the drug-addicts in this Archdiocese.
We pray that thier hearts be softened and they hear you voice, in
what you O'Lord, through us and your Church desire for them. We
pray that they be healed of thier addiction and find peace in your
mercy. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Vespers (Evening Prayer) with Breviary
Lord, we thank you for this day and ask forgiveness for our sins
and mercy on our wealnesses. We ask you to watch over all in our
Community, and those we pray for, and grant us all mercy and concord
in our hearts. Let us rest in your peace and grant us the strength
to rise on the morrow, in anticipation of your Divine will. May
our merits of the day be given totally to the Immaculate Heart of
Mary, your Holy Mother, to dispense with as she sees fit. Theotokos;
let us have the tools to live a regular life. We make our Prayer
through Christ our Lord. Amen
