Legal and Health
Health
An addicts life usually leads to the neglect of health, therefore,
nutritious food and lots of it would be provided by and for the
brother's. Medicinal herbs, vitamins and exercise would also
be part of the regime.
Immaculate Heart Community would be in contact with a suitable
Doctor for medical attention and referrals for psychiatric and other
issues.
Drug Policy
Because of the tendency to addiction and the dependence
on medication for comfort, the community does not permit or administer
drugs of any sort unless authorised by the resident Doctor; certain
drugs such as tobacco and alcohol (in very limited amounts) if permitted
will be carefully scrutinised. Opiate related drugs such as Methadone,
Buopronorphine or benzodiazipines will never be permitted
or be immediatly withdrawn from the Brothers body. Medication for
genuine illnesses such as epilepsy or diabetes can be exempted.
The use of Naltrexone tablets or implants is highly regarded as
an efficient way to combat addictive behaviour.
Hepatitis C
It is recognized that hepatitis C is common in drug addicts and
therefore there will be an awareness of this condition in terms
of diet, hygiene and possible medication and lifestyle. We are aware
of other blood borne conditions such as HIV and hepatitis B and
they will be treated accordingly.
Legal
It is acknowledged that many of the brother's will have police records,
therefore any outstanding legal issues must be dealt with appropriately.
If needed Police, Office of Corrections and welfare authorities
will be notified of the brothers decision to seek help through Immaculate
Heart Community . It is hoped that commitment to the community will
be accepted as time served by the brother's in the eyes of the judiciary.
References will be made available to brother's if they decide
to leave, to assist in housing and employment.
